The Dickinson (Dickenson) is said to descended from Charles Dickinson (Dickenson) of London and Rachel Carter. Charles was of Norman descent. Charles died in 1653 and his widow and sons Henry, Walter, and John emigrated to America. Henry is said to have married a Miss Jennings and their descendants are reputed to be the ancestors of the Virginia branch.
