John Cosby was born About 1680 and died 1761. His first wife was Martha Garland, daughter of Edward Garland Sr., son of Peter Garland who came to Virginia in about 1650. Martha Garland Cosby died in 1749 and after her death John married Anne Meriwether Johnson widow of Thomas Johnson (no issue). John and Martha Garland had the following children.

John Cosby's will be proved in Louisa County in 1760, mentions grandsons Charles and Higgason Dickinson the sons of Griffith and Ann Cosby Dickinson.
