The first family to come to America was John Lewis, who with his wife Isabella Miller, came from Wales about 1640. They had 15 children. We are concerned with two of their sons, John and William. Their names appear as patentees of large bodies of land in Henrico and Gloucester about the middle of the 17th century. Their son, John Lewis Sr. settled in the part of Henrico County that was cut into Goochland County, Virginia.
